What Kitchen Counter is Best for My Home?

kitchen counters

Kitchen countertops are subject to trends, just like every other portion of your home. But time and time again, homeowners agree that some materials are better than others when it comes to countertops. We’re going to explore which materials might be right for your home when you’re looking to make a change. Every home is different, and with a little exploration, you can find the material that is just right for you.

Quartz

The name alone says it all. Quartz is known for its beauty and durability, and it mimics stone in terms of its strength. When it comes to a countertop, less maintenance is best, and that’s the benefit that quartz gives you. You can even place a hot pot on quartz and have no ill effects. Did you know that quartz is a mixture of color, resin, and mineral? That’s why it’s so durable! And not only that, there are a number of different colors to choose from. Just keep in mind that the corners of quartz can chip over time.

Granite

Is there anything more timeless than granite? This natural mineral is known for being one of the best countertop materials. It’s very difficult to harm granite as it’s nearly immune to scratches and heat. You can choose a polished look or more of a matte finished, and when it’s properly sealed, granite can seriously last you for a lifetime. Just note that you’re going to need to periodically reseal it.

Marble, Limestone, Soapstone

Some of the most classic materials that you can use for your countertops are limestone and marble. Is there anything more elegant and refined? These natural stones are resistant to heat and add beauty to any kitchen. Soapstone is not as popular, but just as wonderful. It’s not as common as granite, but it’s still incredibly durable and will last you for quite some time. Homeowners agree that of all of these, soapstone is the most prone to nicks and cuts.

Laminate

This is the least natural of the bunch, but still, a good option if you’re looking to save some money. You may assume that laminate is unattractive, but much has been done by way of innovation in the past number of years. These days, there are a number of different stylish colors and designs to choose from, but keep in mind that you never want to cut directly onto the laminate. Use a cutting board.

Butcher Block

Last but not least we have the timeless butcher block. There’s no better way to prove that you’re someone that actually cooks in your kitchen. The butcher block adds warmth to the space, but it’s important to know that the finish is vital. Nicks and scratches are going to happen, but these can be ameliorated with proper sanding and finishing.
