Guide To Different Window Styles

Window Styles

When it comes to replacement windows, there are so many options to choose from that it can be often overwhelming trying to decide which style of window to install in each part of your home. If you’re interested in learning more about which windows should be installed in each portion of your home, keep reading below to learn more!

Double-Hung Windows

First off, we have arguably the most popular style of window in North America, double-hung windows. One of the most functional styles of window, double-hungs are comprised of two sashes which operate independently from one another. This makes it easy to ventilate your home! Furthermore, modern double-hung windows can now be swung inwards in order to clean hard to reach glass on the second story of the home!

Casement Windows

Another popular style of replacement window, casements are another highly functional style of window that is operated via a crank, rather than sashes than open and close vertically. If you’re looking for a highly functional window that can be operated even with wet hands, consider installing casement windows. They’re great for any kitchen!

Picture Windows

Next up, we have a window style that isn’t particularly functional, but can be highly aesthetic, and add plenty of curb appeal and natural light into your home. Picture windows consist of one large, static piece of glass that cannot be opened or closed. However, it does provide your home with plenty of natural light, making them fantastic for hallways and areas where ventilation isn’t necessary!

Awning Windows

Another popular window style, and one that is very similar to casements, are awnings. While casement windows open horizontally out from the home, awning windows are also operated via a crank, but they open upwards. This means that they can be used during rainstorms without allowing water into the home. If you’re looking for a couple of smaller windows that will allow you to ventilate your home, even during a storm, awnings are a fantastic choice!

Slider Windows

Another window style that peaked in popularity in past decades is the slider window. This style is extremely easy to operate, as it can be opened & closed within a track, making it quick and simple to use. This makes it a great style to install over your kitchen sink for easy ventilation. However, you should ensure that you keep this style of window away from any small children in the house, as it is extremely easy to operate!
