Pressure Treated Deck Construction in Needham, MA

Winter may be right around the corner, but this home owner proves that there is never a wrong time to start making home improvements. Last week we spent some time in the hometown of ESPN analyst Karl Ravech, Needham, MA, to build this beautiful 26×16 foot pressure treated deck. Karl may need one of these decks himself to de-stress after this crazy World Series (Go Sox!). This deck construction was a little more challenging than normal because it was built into the hill on their property, but its nothing the guys at DLM Remodeling can’t handle.

When you are looking to make a long-term investment to your home like this, it makes sense to look into products that can withstand the test of time. Since the beginning of time, humans have been using wood for construction purposes. Wood is strong, fairly lightweight, looks good and is easy to use with tools. Only problem is that wood can get damaged and there are many outdoor factors that can ruin its strength and look. Luckily, with the passage of time, we figured out how to preserve woods strength and look by pressure treating it. This process is when wood is placed into a humongous cylindrical holding tank that gets completely depressurized to take all the air out. The wood is then injected with preservation chemicals like ACQ and the now less used CCA. Without these preserving chemicals, a standard piece of wood might only last a year or two after coming in contact with moisture. Wood that is properly pressure treated by getting the preserving chemicals to the core of the wood, can last up to 40 years!
