What Causes Window Condensation?
Before we can begin discussing how to fix your window condensation issues, we first need to discuss the cause, which will allow us to better understand what needs to be done to fix it.
There are three places condensation can occur; inside your windows, outside your windows, and in between the panes.
If you have condensation on the inside of your home, that means that there is likely excessive moisture in your home, and adding a dehumidifier can help to mitigate any interior condensation.
If the condensation is occurring on the exterior of your windows, it’s just dew settling on your windows from the outdoors, which is nothing to worry about.
When you should be concerned, is if you begin to find condensation between your window panes. If there is condensation forming inside of your windows, this indicates that there is a faulty seal somewhere, which could potentially cause rot damage to your windows and necessitate a replacement. Let’s discuss what to do if you find condensation inside of your window!
How To Address Condensation Inside Of Your Window Panes
Unfortunately, if there is condensation forming in between your window panes, this means that you will need to replace the window panes, if not the entire unit.
If you know which windowpane is leaking, it’s possible that you can replace just one pane in the unit and be able to save the window. However, if you’re not sure, which pane is leaking you may need to replace both.
Unfortunately, if the window leak has been going on for long enough, it will likely have caused damage to the frame of the window, potentially rotting it. If you’re considering trying to salvage the window with a pane replacement, be sure to examine the unit first and ensure that the rest of the system is in good repair, as it’s possible that more damage has occurred to the window than you initially noticed.
